The concept of establishing a charitable clinic such as Mayflower had been in hearts and minds of many immigrants professionals from all over the world who settled in Wichita, as a way to give back to a community that has enabled their success.
Poor economy, outsourcing of jobs and layoffs in the Wichita area in 2010 resulted in many families without health insurance; some too young for Medicare or not poor enough for Medicaid while others simply cannot afford private insurance, creating a new group of at-risk members in our community.
The founders of Mayflower clinic, mostly immigrants, stepped up to the challenge and provided talents, skills and generosity of the immigrant community into helping serve this target population free of charge. Their efforts resulted in opening of the Mayflower Clinic in October 2010, and by end of 2012, the Mayflower Clinic has seen over 2000 community members.
